UTXO Set Size
Historical count of Bitcoin's unspent transaction outputs, from genesis to the current chain tip.
UTXO Set Size is the number of outputs that still exist and can potentially be spent. Every transaction output except OP_RETURN adds one UTXO, and every input removes one. OP_RETURN outputs are provably unspendable and are never stored in the UTXO set.
Bitcoin Core never stores OP_RETURN outputs in the chainstate - they are provably unspendable, so nodes have no reason to track them as candidates for future spending. Block data is permanent, but the UTXO set holds only what can still be spent: today the full chain weighs 844.59 GB while the chainstate fits in just 11.35 GB. This page tracks per-block changes using getblockstats.utxo_increase_actual, which reflects this correctly; the alternative field utxo_increase overcounts by including unspendable outputs. The genesis block coinbase is a special zero-change case - it was mined but never entered the UTXO set.
